Along Warwick Road South in Old Trafford, you can find the latest housing development scheme MBS have been involved with.

Developed and spearheaded by the local, Altrincham-based McGoff Construction, they helped bring to life the incredible designs done by our friends at Corstophine & Wright. Made up of 78 one-bedroom apartments and 48 two-bedroom apartments, the project will support the growing need for housing in Manchester.

Supporting Manchester’s growth

Back in 2021, the plan for 126 new apartments was approved, and development began. For a city growing and expanding as fast as Manchester, new housing like this is vital. Not just for helping with the UK’s widespread housing crisis, but for supporting and reinforcing the huge investments businesses are putting into Manchester.

The number of businesses moving operations to Manchester City centre has led to Manchester’s average GDP per capita surpassing the national average. If Manchester wants this growth to continue, the council and developers must ensure housing is built in alignment with the growing employment rate and population.

Brick

A majority of the project is built with a stunning red brick, helping to bring colour and character to the project. This was our exclusive Calderwood Claret, featuring a rich red, multi-tone colour pallet, with a bold rusticated finish to add depth and texture. Rusticated bricks like this help to deliver timeless character with the benefits of contemporary styles. Perfect for both urban and rural settings, the Calderwood claret really brings this project to life.

Affordability and sustainability

What makes this project great is that not only does it support Manchester’s recent development, but it also ensures the apartments meet affordability requirements. Shared ownership scheme helps make it easier for new buyers to get on the property ladder. Located across from Old Trafford Metrolink station, it ensures that residents can easily access links to the city centre. This doesn’t just encourage footfall into the city’s main business and retail areas. It also reduces residents’ carbon footprint, helping Manchester to meet its own

Sustainability is a vital part of any development, and as the UK works towards its 2025 net-zero goals, MBS must work with partners to deliver on key sustainability goals. This project considered multiple ways of meeting these targets.

For one, the development was built upon a brownfield site, ensuring local wildlife was protected and undisturbed. Additionally, this development has been built with efficient heating and hot water systems in mind to ensure residents actively reduce their carbon footprint.

Progress is very far along, with McGoff Construction putting the final touches on the development. We can’t wait for new buyers to see the completed project, and for future residents to begin moving in. It’s a great addition to the Old Trafford area and will help to support local growth.

This brick I wanted is seen across London and the South East and has a history dating back 300 years, meaning I had a match for the historical context of the build.
